This guided mindfulness exercise is based on a well-established ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) technique that teaches you to observe your thoughts without getting caught up in them.
Imagine placing each thought — worry, self-criticism, distraction — onto a leaf, and watching it float gently downstream. You don't fight the thought. You don't push it away. You simply let it pass.
This exercise will help you:
- Detach from anxious or unhelpful thoughts
- Reduce the power that worry has over your day
- Build a calmer, more present state of mind
- Develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts
Ideal for riders who experience intrusive or repetitive thoughts around riding, or anyone wanting a simple, effective tool to manage anxiety in daily life.
Find a quiet, comfortable place. Never listen while driving or operating machinery.

Here’s how to get the most from each session:
- Find a quiet space where you can relax
- Use headphones for deeper focus
- Listen once a day—before riding, after riding, or at bedtime for at least 2 weeks
- No pressure to “do it right”—just relax and let it guide you
- After the initial period, recordings can be listened to 3 times a week, or as required.
Other important information:
- Audio recordings should not be listened to whilst operating machinery, driving or conducting any activity that require your full attention (including horse riding).
- Unauthorized reading, copying, distribution, or disclosure of this recording, in whole or in part, is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this disclaimer will be classed as theft and may result in further action.
